In the Company of Silence is a calming oil painting of a Barn owl's successful hunt for a small vole above the flowering cow parsley of the North Devon fields. The painting was made using numerous layers of highly pigmented oil paint on a hand stretched and triple primed canvas. These magical creatures have silky soft comb-like feathers that dampen the sounds of airflow caused by the beating of their powerful wings. This means that their flight is almost silent and their sudden swooping appearances often imperceptible to prey. This is an original one-off artwork painted with artist grade oil paints and metallic pigments on hand-stretched triple primed canvas. I don't release prints of my work as I believe they can't quite offer the same presence that comes from the physicality of the painting as an object on a wall. The light falls differently on the textures and glazes on its surface that can only be seen in the original. This painting is ready to hang, as it has been painted on canvas and varnished to protect the paint surface. It is signed on the front, and a catalogued certificate of authenticity is attached to the reverse. For safe delivery, the artwork will be carefully packaged and shipped fully insured via a tracked courier.
