This ArtMakersUK panel discussion will bring together two northern Devon textile artists Kate Eldridge, and Laura Shone sharing their experiences of how they got making and turning their skills into a business. Kate Eldridge is an emerging artist working primarily with fibre, beads & textiles. She is the owner of ‘The Bead & Fibre Cellar’ a boutique craft retail business specialising in beads and beading. In 2019 the business diversified into fibre crafts and Kate now teaches regular workshops in both beading and feltmaking. Kate has beading patterns published in several magazines in addition to retailing them via her own business outlets. Laura Shone is a multimedia artist specialising in textiles. She designed and created award winning costumes for a local photographer Andy Robinson. Laura uses the technique of eco printing, free motion embroidering and embellishing fabrics. She also makes a range of interior soft furnishings using eco printing techniques. Hear all about how these practioners got started, what inspired them to pick up their craft. The challenges of starting a creative business in North Devon, how they built their audience and grow their business, what makes these creatives tick?! This will be an informal panel discussion led by Hilary and Phil founders of ArtMakers aimed at inspiring and encouraging others to turn their creative practice into business's.
