An introduction to woodcut printing with artist Merlyn Chesterman.
Merlyn was born in England, and grew up in Hong Kong, returning to England to study Fine Art at Bath Academy of Art, Corsham, where she obtained a B.A., and from Bath University a Dip. Ed. She is a woodblock printmaker.
This woodblock printmaking day course is suitable for new students, participants will mainly work in black and white and become familiar with woods, inks, papers, tools, tool sharpening, equipment, handprinting and machine printing. The rugged Atlantic coast can be a marvellous starting point for prints.
You will spend the day, finding out about all aspects of woodcut printing, designing and cutting your own woodblock design and then learning to print your design using a press. Participants will come away with a selection of prints that they have designed during the day. All equipment is included. Please wear clothes that you don’t mind getting paint on.
