Jon Lucas - Digital Fine Art

ABOUT

London Born Digital Fine Artist

I grew up in London, shaped by its shifting light, weathered surfaces, and the quiet rhythm of its architecture. Those early impressions formed the way I see. They taught me to pay attention to colour, texture, and the subtle tensions held within a surface. My work grows from that sensitivity, moving between instinct and refinement, where digital tools meet the traditions that formed me.

Experience Shaped Through Fine Art Practice

My experience spans decades of making and teaching. After completing my BA and MA in Fine Art at Bretton Hall College, University of Leeds, I worked as an art tutor at Bretton Hall, guiding students through the fundamentals of mark making, surface exploration, and creative process. Those years deepened my understanding of how ideas evolve through practice and how materials shape thought.

Alongside teaching, I continued developing my own work, moving from printmaking and sculpture into digital media in the late 1990s. This shift opened a new way of working that merges traditional craft with contemporary digital techniques. Over time, this hybrid approach has shaped a visual language that carries atmosphere, depth, and a quiet sense of place.

iPhone Digital Art and Layered Techniques

I work with an iPhone as a portable sketchbook, gathering moments of weather, movement, and surface that catch my attention. These fragments become the starting point for digital compositions that evolve slowly, layer by layer. The result is work that feels immediate yet considered, abstract yet connected to place, shaped by London origins and the quiet discoveries found in daily looking.
